Q: We're very excited to be interviewing 14-year-old bestselling author Jameson Bartlett. Hi, Jameson!
J: Hi! Please call me Jamie.
Q: Jamie, not many girls are published authors at your age. How did you feel when you found out your journal was going to be made into a book?
J: At first? I was in total shock. One minute, I'm stressing about writing an essay for English homework. Then, practically all of a sudden, I'm a published author. I mean, He-LLOO? Un. Be. Lievable.
Q: How are your friends and classmates handling your fame?
J: My BFF Harmony is totally cool with it. But then, she's just always totally cool! My other BFF Lindsay used to be all "Can I have your autograph in case you blow me off so I can prove I really knew you?" She's calmed down, tho.
Oh—and the Populars at school? They still pretty much ignore me.
Q: Are you planning another book? Maybe a sequel?
J: Yes! Yes, I am! And if my agent is reading this, I'm going to start it tonight! I mean, after I write an essay for English. Oh and empty the dishwasher and answer some emails... uh, maybe I'll start it tomorrow.
Q: Are you still nervous at book signings or have you gotten used to meeting your fans?
J: I still can't believe I even have fans!!! I mean, when I think there are all these people who actually liked something I wrote? It's such an honor!
But I still get really nervous and do stupid things at book signings. Like my last one? I was waving at my fans and I knocked over a display of Traveling Pants books. Traveling Pants everywhere! Ack.
Q: Speaking of fans, let's take some questions from our audience. Hello, Katie.
Katie: Hi!!! Oh my gosh, I can't believe I'm talking to THE Jamie Bartlett! I loved your book! It changed my life!!
J: Wow, thanks!
Katie: Ok, how do you come up with the idea for your book?
J: I was really sick of comparing myself to all those supermodels and actresses who are way more perfect-looking than me! And here was this girl in my grade, who was being all Mean Girl to me. And my sister Allie, Diva Prom Princess, was driving me crazy. I was really stressed out!
So I wrote out all my feelings in my journal. They were supposed to be personal and private…but they were published in a book instead!
Q: Chelsea, do you have a question for Jamie?
Chelsea: Did you always want to be an author?
J: Actually when I was little I wanted to be a vet. Or a fashion designer. I'm sure being an actual author seemed totally way out of my league. But I've always loved to read and I love to write in my journal. And now? I looooove being an author!
Amanda: Hi Jamie! I can't believe you went to the Teen Yes awards in Hollywood! Was it way glam?
J: WAY glam. They did my hair, my makeup, my nails. I got the coolest dress... There were tons of celebrities. But then of course, my mom had to go and totally embarrass me...Ack. Let's move on, shall we?
Q: OK, time for the tough questions. Gummi bears or pop rocks?
J: Gummi bears!
Q: 5 things you'd want if you were stuck in an elevator overnight?
J: A pillow, a cell phone, my BFF Harmony, a book, and munchies. And lip gloss. Oh, and a bathroom…OK, can I have 7 things?
Q: Would you audition for American Idol?
J: OMG! I am such a bad singer. Simon would totally humiliate me. I would so die.
Q: Ashton or Justin?
J: Hm...
Q: Orlando or Aaron? Johnny or Josh? Topher or Nick?
J: Can I just say All of the Above? Hee!
Q: Favorite color?
J: Purple! Oh excuse me for a minute, please... Uh oh, my mom is calling me…I forgot to empty the dishwasher. Ugh. You'd think a bestselling author could get out of dish duty once in awhile but nope I… gotta go. sorry.
Q: It's no problem. Thank you for your time, Jamie.
J: Thank you!!! Bye, everybody!!!
